When two people love each other, care for each other and then are denied the perks that married people take for granted there is something basically wrong. I have a gay friend who tells many stories of a couple of the same sex who have lived together for years and one of them becomes hospitalized. At that time the biological members of the sick persons family have legal rights, even though they many not have seen the patient for years. They have probably been estranged due to their prejudice over the fact that their relative is gay. Out of revenge they bar the lover of their relative from seeing his/her partner and make all medical decisions. Would any married person be okay with that?

Then there's the simple economic situation. The gay couple are not able to file joint income tax and are unable to inherit half of the value of the partner's IRA benefits, etc.

Common decency demands that we give gay people the right to marry. And I can't speak for God, but I do think he said he loved all his children. Jesus said, "Judge not." Now who might be going to hell? Frankly, if I believed in heaven or hell I would be like Mark Twain.
